In any event, I'm back for the time being and I'm looking through the June Issue of The Source with 16 mug shots of artists like Eve, Big Boi and 50 (among others) on the cover. The story focuses on the 30 albums to look forward to and it's damn insightful.
While at least half of them will be cool, there are a few in particular I'm keeping my eyes on...
T.I. - T.I. vs. T.I.P. I'm not going into detail with this one. I think this is probably the one record everyone is dying to listen to. He always puts out quality work and his new mixtape with the Tapemasters was solid.
Nelly - The Prelude Say what you want about Nelly. Call him watered down, call him "pop" oriented, but the guy has always released some good music. I'm just hoping he doesn't have a collaboration with another country music star.
Common - Finding Forever I don't think Be got enough credit. There were a lot of people saying that Kanye's Late Registration was the rap album of 2005 and I heavily disagreed. Be was miles better, in my opinion at least. But 'Ye did produce the record, so he had something to do with it. Kanye is teaming up with Common once again for Finding Forever, so I'm expecting this to be a continuation, like Common picking up where he left off.
Boyz N Da Hood - Back In The Chevy So Jeezy isn't on the album this time around. At least we still have Jody fuckin' Breeze (btw, if you're reading this Jody, drop your album already). To be honest, I really don't know what to expect, which is awesome. Like how many fucking times do we expect a record to be so awesome, only to be let down? When I cop my copy of Back In The Chevy, I will have no expectations. Let's see if they can outdo themselves.
Slim Thug - Boss of All Bosses If you can't tell by now, I'm on that down south shit. Being stationed in the south will do that to you though. I've been hooked on Slim Thug's flow for a while. His delivery is smooth and I enjoyed his major label debut Already Platinum (despite it going gold). Plus if you haven't heard "Woodgrain Wheel" or "Problem Wit Dat," then you should. But that's not an order because, as you can tell, I'm not a fucking king.
Big Boi, Stat Quo, Murphy Lee, Juvenile, Rick Ross, Weezy, Lupe and Chamillionaire are others I'm eager to peep to (for one reason or another), so I'm stoked about the next six months.
There is one group that was left out on the Power 30 though, that being Little Brother. They will be releasing their third record, Getback, sometime this fall (I believe) and let's hope BET plays their videos this time.
