What's good Baller! Everything is straight over here for the most part. I been grinding with the new CD and trying to get a copy in everyone's hands. We got rid of the first 5,000 copies in under a week and just pressed up 2,000 more. All the music has been getting very good feedback and a lot of people tell me I stepped it up big time. It feels good to know the fans are feeling the material because I work very hard at this.
The release party for This Is AC Part 2 had potential to one of the biggest parties of the summer. The turn out was insane, over 300 people came out to support ya boy, but it turned out the venue had other plans. Runway Lounge NYC is a wannabe upscale NYC Club and has no idea how to run a business.
After numerous discussions between my camp and the owners, we were under the impression that we could promote a party with a "casual dress code." The night of the party, the low budget asshole at the door decided he would not let anyone in with jeans and sneakers. Now, if I had known they did not allow jeans and sneakers, I would have not booked this venue to begin with. During that night I watched the owner of Runway get embarrassed by some "doorman" and get disrespected in front of hundreds of people at his own club. At this point I knew I was dealing with rookies. I don't care how good your club is doingm you do not turn away 300 party goers/money spenders.
At first I thought, well, ok they have a really strict dress code and they will not budge for anyone; that was until I witnessed them let some SB motherfucker in with shorts and a skateboard. I am not kidding you people, the dude had a skateboard!! I was waiting for him to do a tail grab into the club and slap the bouncer a high five while he grinded on the side of the bar. Listen, I am Latino, and I very rarely pull the race card, but there is no other way to explain what I saw. The crowd that came out was predominantly Black and Spanish and this skater was a Caucasian. He was let in with no questions asked. I know some people will argue that money talks, but trust me that was not that case. EVERYONE witnessed me offer the bouncer a nice amount of money to make this problem go away, yet I was denied. It also could be that Runway hates hip-hop, who knows. Over all, the night was very disappointing and best believe I will be re-scheduling in the near future.
After the free bottles were gone and the open bar was over, I grabbed up what was left of my people and moved the party over to Mantra (a very nice lounge/bar on 52nd and 2nd). I have to give credit to my friend/photographer Josh for coming through on such short notice. I owe you one my dude. We partied the rest of the night away and made the best of it. I have to thank everyone who came out to support me and I will be doing it bigger and better the next time around.
I urge everyone reading this to contact Runway Lounge and let them know how you feel about this incident. Air em out:
