Sports Talks: Kimbo Getting A Real Fight? Canseco Needs A JobWednesday - March 26, 2008By: Mike Monson
MMAEliteXC will premier Saturday Night Fights on CBS. The event will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on May 31. EliteXC middleweight champion, Robbie Lawler, will defend his title against Scott Smith. Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will also be on the card, but his opponent hasn't been named. "I am very happy for the highly trained fighters, who will finally get the kind of exposure they deserve, and, of course, the viewers, who will get the opportunity to learn that MMA is truly a sport that requires an abundance of skills, both mentally and physically," said Shaw, via a press release last week. The few fighters that could be good test for Kimbo include Pedro Rizzo, Paul Buentello and Jeff Monson. These fighters are former title contenders, have been in wars and none are ranked in any top ten ranking, so this would be a good test for "Kimbo," who has yet to prove himself against any notable professional MMA fighters. Kimbo only has three pro fights under his belt. A competive fight against any of these fighters will give Kimbo legit MMA credit. Also on the card for the premier is Frank Shamrock (23-8-1), who will be defending his middle weight strikeforce title against his former training partner, kickboxing champ turned MMA fighter CungLe (21-0) on March 29 in San Jose. The complete card is as follows: Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le Gilbert Melendez vs. Gabe Lemley Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett Evangelista Santos vs. Joey Villasenor Nick Diaz vs. Jae Suk Lim Luke Stewart vs. Tiki Ghosn NBA

Seahawks: Former USC Trojan Lofa Tatupu reached BallerStatus when the linebacker agreed last week to a $42 million contract extension that could keep him as the leader of Seattle's defense through 2015. It also keeps Tatupu from becoming a free agent after the 2009 season. The deal guarantees $18 million and a lot of ASS for Tutpu. MLBJose Canseco says, in his new book, that he introduced Alex Rodriguez to a steroids distributor and that A-Rod pursued Canseco's wife, according to the Website of freelance writer Joe Lavin. Lavin says that he obtained the book, Vindicated: Big Names, Big Liars, and The Battle to Save Baseball, on Monday (March 24) from a bookstore in Cambridge, Mass. The book is due to be released April 1st. Lavin writes that Canseco's book discusses A-Rod, Roger Clemens and Magglio Ordonez. The New York Times reported in January that Canseco offered to keep Ordonez "clear" in the book if the Detroit outfielder invested in a movie project promoted by Canseco. Lavin reports that Canseco wrote he denies those allegations. Jose needs to get a job coaching little league or teaching PE, because this fool has to much time on his hands.GO BACK TO SITE |
