NBA
Cavaliers: Lebron James scored his 10,000th point Thursday night (February 28) in an 87-92 loss to the Celtics. Lebron is the youngest player to accomplish that in NBA history. I'm sure not too many people are surprised by that, he has been a scoring machine since coming straight from high school. Hopefully with the addition of Ben Wallace, the Cavs will have a legit chance at making the Finals.
Suns: The team lost to the Hornets 103-120. The Suns have lost three of their last five games since the the Shaq trade. Last week Shaq said he felt this team could win it all, this week he said "We are still learning what we have to do to win games. We'll be fine. We just caught a team that was called out by their coach and they played very well." What's he going to say next? "We're a young team, we need time to gel, Nash is learning how to pass the ball around, we'll be fine?" What ever big fella, it's time to start looking at scripts again.
The Lakers won their 9th straight recently, beating the Blazers 96-83 @ the Staples Center. The new generation "Showtime" Lakers have already matched their win total from last season. I have a pretty good feeling the Lakers are on their way to the finals with or without Bynum.
Rockets: Yao Ming is out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. I'm sure all of you in Houston are disappointed because you have been on a hot streak, but what did you expect to happen? Yao and T-Mac to stay healthy all season? Those guys are made out of glass.
Knicks: The worst ran team in sports might be making a change. Kiki Vandeweghe, former GM of the Nuggets, is the front runner to replace Isaiah Thomas as President of the team. The one thing Isaiah did better then any other executive in the NBA is waste money. George Bush will probably make him Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Treasury.
NFL
Vikings: Starting LT, Bryant Mckinnie, spat in the face of a bouncer, then smashed his head with pole during a bar brawl at a Miami night club recently. McKinnie, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. He eventually was released on bail. "Resisting arrest without violence?" That cracks me up. He bashed a guy's head in with a pole. The fact that "without violence" is anywhere on that police report has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard of...
Patriots: First they get exposed for being cheaters, then their RB, Kevin Faulk, gets busted with four blunts at concert in Louisiana. I hope it wasn't some THC O.G. or Fire O.G., I could see how that would ruin a concert. Actually that would ruin just sitting around. I'm sure Kevin called Junior Seau in Cali to send him some more.
Saints: RB Reggie Bush skipped his deposition hearing for a civil lawsuit recently that accuses him of taking gifts, money and a house for his parents during his time at USC. Bush's Attorney David Cornell said Reggie got lost in Kim K's butt and hasn't been seen for days.
MMA
UFC: Anderson Silva is defending his middle weight title in a unification fight this Saturday (March 1) against Pride MW champ Dan Henderson at UFC82, in what could be as historic as the "thrilla in Manilla" for the hardcore MMA fan. Anderson Silva has dominated the UFC middle weight division since his debut back in June 2006. He is considered one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. He's definitely the slickest, he puts his punches, kicks and knees in combos that look like he got them from "Street Fighter 2." His jiu-jitsu? It's top notch and he is going to need all that skill against Henderson. Henderson is a two-time Olympian wrestler that packs serious KO power in his hands, and has held two belts in two weight classes (middleweight and light heaveyweight) when he was in Pride. The people in Vegas that make the odds have a tough job on their hands this time around. Their styles are completely different from each other. Look for Henderson to try to utilize the cage to secure takedowns and to bang with Silva at close distance. Watch for Silva to try to keep distance and take advantage of his reach on Henderson. When this fight goes to the ground, it's hard to say who has the advantage because hey are both so good there. Silva has excellent submissions, but Henderson has impressive victories over some world-class jiu-jitsu players.
For betting, this a hard one to call. But if you are going to bet, I would put it on Henderson because he is coming off a close loss to Rampage Jackson and I think he can out power and wrestler Silva in the clinch and plus Hendo is the underdog, so you can make more money on him. However, Silva is five years younger then Hendo, so if this goes the distance, then Silva might have the advantage in the fourth and fifth rounds.
