Despite a bitter writer's strike dividing Hollywood over the past few months, the film industry were all in attendence for hte 80th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (February 24) at Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre.

Host Jon Steward began the ceremony with jokes of the strike, which ended just in time for the big Hollywood event. "These past three and a half months have been very tough. The town was torn apart by a bitter writer's strike, but I'm happy to say that the fight is over," Stewart said. "So tonight, welcome to the makeup sex."

The big winner of the night was the Coen brothers' crime saga, "No Country for Old Men," which won Oscars in four categories, including best picture.

Javier Bardem won for supporting actor in the film, which also brothers Joel and Ethan Coen best director, best adapted screenplay and the best-picture honor as producers.

During the directors' acceptance speech, Joel Coen remember how the pair got their start -- recalling how they began making films in their childhood, and now moving on to mainstream acceptance.

"What we do now doesn't feel that much different from what we were doing then," Joel Coen said. "We're very thankful to all of you out there for continuing to let us play in our corner of the sandbox."

"No Courty" has pulled on $64 million domestically, being the Coens' biggest box-office hit to date. Their past films include the modest hits "Fargo" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and other lesser-knowns "The Hudsucker Proxy" and "The Man Who Wasn't There."

Also winning big was the final film in the Bourne trilogy, "The Bourne Ultimatum," which won the editing Oscar and swept all three categories in which it was nominated, including sound editing and sound mixing.

Also beating out all odds was "Juno" screenwriter, Diablo Cody, who took home the trophy for Best Original Screenplay. The first time screenwriter is a former stripper who's come a long way from dancing on the pole.

"All I know is ['Juno'] beat the odds," she told MTV backstage.

The actual ceremony was a bore fest, so hopefully the afterparties made up for it.
