DVD Review: The System Within
Created by Tariq Alexander, "The System Within" is a story about a young boy that is swept into the street lifestyle. Tony "Wise" Good, played by Alexander, is forced to leave the streets and quickly turns his life around. Things seem to be going good for Tony until his past is just two steps behind. He had it all; fame and fortune, a beautiful wife and a new born baby. But one by one, things fell apart and Tony found himself in an uphill battle fighting for everything he cherished. Relationships are made, but some broken, people get hurt, but some too late to help. There is only so much one can do while being locked up, something no one can control. Can he escape ""The System Within?"

The System Within Film Productions is the real powerhouse behind the movie. The company that has many functions another than producing movie,s such as music and designing clothes. The purpose is to help aspiring actors reach there goals as well as singers, songwriters, make-up artists and designers. "The System Within" movie was launched in spring 2007 showcasing up-and-coming talent and introducing Chingy as an actor.

"The System Within" has its highs and lows, but still manages to leave a bit of suspense to keep you guessing. The acting, however, needs some help. What's worse hearing an Americanized Jamaican accent or not picking believable characters for the role? For example, Chingy, the superstar that he is, is that he is didn't seem to be just that. His role in the movie did not do him any justice. The first acting job as a superstar should make you stand out, at least just a little bit, but instead, we are left with just a regular character following his drug dealer for half the movie. But let's not forget that this is not a Hollywood movie and is not meant to be one. So if Denzel Washington did this to get to where he is today, who's to say Chingy doesn't have a chance.

Overall the writing is really well done and it portrays what happens to incarcerated men, just like Tariq Alexander wanted. Everyone in some way or another can relate to the system either trapped in it themselves or knowing someone who has.
