Do you think you can win a $1 million for playing "Halo 3?" Well, sort of, thanks to the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL).

The CPL announced Friday (October 26) that it will host a $1 million "Halo 3" Xbox 360 competition at the Extreme Winter Championships taking place in December in Dallas, Texas.

Organized by X Factor Tournament, a new e-sports management organization in exclusive partnership with the CPL, the winner of the competition will receive a $250,000 instant cash payout at the CPL Winter event, while other prizes will be paid to at least 64 places.

The competition is open to gamers worldwide and does not require pre-qualification or previous tournament experience.

"We are thrilled to host this enormous $1,000,000 'Halo 3' open competition and to announce it on the tenth year anniversary of our first event," said Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the CPL, via a statement. "X Factor Tournament has deposited $1,000,000 to a designated bank account for prize payment, making it the largest videogame competition ever.

"We invite the community of gamers to join us in this landmark event, which we hope will usher a new era of large-prize open competitions available to gamers of all skill levels, and not just the elite few," Munoz continued.

The event will take place from Tuesday, December 18 to Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Dallas, Texas.

Online registration will open Tuesday (October 30). More information is available at Halo3Competition.com.

"After months of conversations with the diverse videogame leagues it became very obvious to us that CPL has the experience, knowledge and brand recognition to help accelerate our growth in this new sport," said Charles Kano, President of X Factor Tournament. "We are excited to commence our CPL relationship with the $1,000,000 'Halo 3' competition and we look forward to offering more open tournaments in the months to come."
