NBA's Baron Davis, Chris Paul Excited About 'NBA 2K8'

It's about that time of year again where b-ball video gamer fans are gearing up for the release of "NBA 2K8" on October 2 -- dropping on Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 formats. The NBA 2K series has been the no. 1 rated NBA simulation game for five years and running, while 2K7 was last year's top selling basketball game on Xbox 360.
"We always like to zig where others zag," said Tim Rosa, 2K Sports' director of brand and lifestyle marketing, excited about new features for the game.
2K basketball game aficionados can look forward to all-new play modes, defensive mechanics, off ball controls, a radically improved franchise mode, the all new Sprite Slam Dunk Challenge, where players can go head-to-head against a friend in a creative slam dunk face-off, and much more.
"The thing I like about the video game is all the features are great," said Baron Davis of the Golden State Warriors. "The look is incredible and when you can play the game, it feels like you're really playing and you can coach at the same time. I don't think that any sports game -- any basketball game to this point -- has been able to do that to where you can really run plays and coach the player at the same time."
Baron Davis is a featured athlete in the game, but you also have the option of playing with other celebrities like Q-Tip, Common, DJ Steve Aoki and Entourage's Jerry "Turtle" Ferrara. Bobbito Garcia even makes an appearance as the M.C. in the Sprite Slam Dunk Challenge.
Not to be forgotten is the soundtrack.
"It's incredible for me, being a huge hip-hop fan, seeing the way that hip-hop and basketball have merged organically in this game," added Baron Davis. "And this game has made it a phenomenal experience for me, so I'm just thankful to be here to be featured in the game."
Contributors to the soundtrack include Talib Kweli, J. Dilla, Common and Q-Tip who are using the 2K8 tour as an opportunity to launch their new group called The Standard, as well as Quasimoto, Devo, Cut Chemist, Fishbone, Stones Roses plus more, adding some deviation from the game's usual hip-hop theme.
Chris Paul, another featured athlete, is excited that New Orleans gets some shine, and in addition to the fact that he's excited to have been chosen for the cover he says, "This is the best game out there, hands down. Anybody anywhere and with any other company will tell you that it's the best basketball game out there. You won't be disappointed. It's a fun game and it's more of a challenge this year. It's just getting better and better."
