During a weekend, beginning in late October, some of the country's most talented step teams will battle it out for the Who Runs The Yard national step competition for all the glory.
During the fun-filled weekend, step teams from all over the nation will compete for a grand prize of $10,000, which will be hosted by Terrance and Rocsi of BET's "106 & Park." Ten hard stepping Greek fraternity or sorority teams are expected to compete.
"We are making history as the first large-scale national step show ever held in Southern California," says Jeru Tillman of Big Game Ventures, the creator of the Who Runs The Yard Weekend. "We've invited Historically Black College and University step teams to compete against west coast step teams. For example, you may have a group from UCLA competing against a group from Spellman or Morehouse. It's going to be crazy with plenty of entertainment for youth and young adults. Consider it 'Stomp The Yard' on steroids."
From Friday, October 19th through Saturday October 20th, the 2006 Who Runs The Yard Weekend will commence at the Wilshire EBell Theatre in Los Angeles, CA at 8 p.m. (Friday) and the Home Depot Center in Carson, California (Saturday). It will also include a comedy show on Friday, followed by a Celebrity Basketball Game and the Who Runs the Yard national step competition on Saturday.
The West Coast teams will be selected from preliminary competitions being held in California during the month of September. The HBCU teams selected to compete will be flown to California free of charge, and the day before the competition the teams will be treated to a day of fun at a local amusement park and attend the comedy show that night.
