Rockstar Games Reveals Visuals Of 'GTA IV'; Takes Game Back To New York

Rockstar Games has finally unveiled the city for the next installment of their Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game series, and it's headed back to the city it started in -- New York.
After taking its franchise to various popular cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and San Francisco, GTA is headed back to Liberty City, the game's version of the Big Apple.
Rockstar dropped a first look into "Grand Theft Auto IV" via a one-minute trailer of its versions for the PS3 and Xbox 360 formats.
Distinct NYC landmarks are flashed throughout the sneak peek including the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Times Square in stunning high-definition detail.
The trailer ends with the narration of a Russian sounding man who says, "I killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here things will be different."
Although it is only speculated, it seems as though this character will be the game's main character.
Rockstar reps are tight-lipped about further details about the game, but did tell MTV that they can "confirm that all footage in the trailer 'Things Will Be Different' was captured directly from 720p gameplay running real time in our RAGE engine on a next-gen gaming console."
The GTA game series began in 1997 with its first version that was played from a bird's-eye view and featured the thing that made the game so popular -- the ability to steal and drive any car around the game's city. Its first setting was London.
When GTA III was released on the PS2, that's when it became one of the most sought after games at the time and when it first introduced Liberty City, as well as three dimensional gameplay where players controlled its character at ground level.
It then moved to "Vice City" where players were taken into a 1980s Miami, followed by "San Andreas" with cities like an early-90s Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas were depicted in the game.
"San Andreas" sold more than five million copies in the last three months of 2004 alone, MTV says according to the NPD group, proving its overwhelming popularity despite criticism for its depiction of violence against women, police officers and various ethnic groups.
More trailers are expected in October, around the time of "GTA IV's" release on the 16th.
