Samuel L. Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Christina Ricci are set to roll out their latest film, "Black Snake Moan," on Friday (March 2), and with the film's buzz, it's poised to show some impressive numbers at the box office.
"Black Snake Moan" casts Ricci as Rae, the town tramp, who is nursed by to health by Jackson's character, Lazarus -- who is coming off his own rough period, due to his wife leaving him, as well as his abandonment of his musical prowess as a bluesman.
Walking off a long night of drinking, Lazarus discovers Rae, near dead, on the side of the road.
It becomes clear to Lazarus that the way to redemption is through the transformation of Rae. Lazarus decides to cure Rae of her wicked ways -- and vent some unresolved male vengeance of his own, chaining her to his radiator, justifying his unorthodox methods with quoted Bible scripture.
Unleashing Rae emotionally, Lazarus unchains his heart, finding love again in Angela (S. Epatha Merkerson). By saving Rae, he frees himself.
"Black Snake Moan" is the third feature by writer/director Craig Brewer, following up the success of 2005's Hustle & Flow which won an Academy Award for Best Song and the 2005 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.
