Billionaire David Rockefeller Dies at 101
Billionaire David Rockefeller passed away on Monday morning (March 20). He was 101 years old.
A family spokesperson said he died peacefully at his family’s estate in Pocantico Hills, New York. The cause of death has been reported as congestive heart failure.
Rockefeller is the last remaining grandchild of America’s first billionaire, Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller. He was a prominent banker and former chairman and CEO of The Chase Manhattan Bank, which he served as from 1969 to 1980.
At the time of his death, Rockefeller was worth an estimated $3.3 billion, which according to Forbes, made him the 604th richest person in the world.
He was a noted philanthropist, giving away around $2 billion to various causes, such as New York City's urban revitalization efforts.
Rockefeller is survived by five children, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
