NFL Legends Team Up For Charity Sock Collaboration
With the NFL playoffs underway, lifestyle brand Legends lauches a special sock capsule, dubbed "Legends 50 for 50 Football Collection."
Inspired by former NFL linebacker Eric Barton's story of survival, the collection features a range of socks designed by Barton, along with 50 of his fellow football legends.
If you're unfamiliar with his story, Barton's whole life has been about defying the odds. Drafted in the fifth round by the Oakland Raiders in 1999, he went on to play 12 seasons as a pro, during which he earned multiple defensive honors and led the Raiders to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII. He later led the New York Jets as Team Captain, and played for the Cleveland Browns before a serious neck injury effectively ended his career.
While recovering from the spinal complications after retiring, he faced yet another hurdle: his liver was failing and he would need a transplant to save his life.
"I thought I was going to die," Barton says. "But thanks to the team at Cedars-Sinai, I came out of this horrible experience with a lot of joy and renewed determination."
Less than 12 months after the life-saving surgery, Barton wants to give back, and teamed up with Legends for this sock collection, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Liver Disease and Transplant Center at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where Barton successfully underwent a liver transplant surgery last year.
The collection is available now with three designs created by two-time Pro Bowler T.J. Ward. Drops will continue through January, with releases from Barton's former Raiders teammates Charles Woodson and "The Polish Cannon" kicker Sebastian Janikowski, with future collaborations with NFL Legends Eric Allen, Reggie White, Jon Gruden, Keyshawn Johnson and Marcus Allen to follow.
Each release will launch exclusively online and each limited to 200 pairs per style.
