49ers Give Colin Kaepernick Nod to Start On Sunday
After five weeks this NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers are benching quarterback Blaine Gabbert... and putting Colin Kaepernick back at starter.
Coach Chip Kelly named Kaepernick the starter on Tuesday (Oct. 11), saying he will start on Sunday's game against Buffalo.
"I think I've always been confident," Kaepernick said. "It's something that I'm ready to step on that field, I'm ready to play. It's been about a year since live game action. So, I'm itching to get out there."
Kaepernick was benched last November, after a 2-6 start, in favor of Blaine Gabbert. But after starting 1-4 this season, the coach was tired of watching Gabberts struggle.
It will be Colin's first game since Nov. 1 of last year, and first since he began making headlines in August for taking a knee, instead of standing for the National Anthem.
