Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo was killed in a fatal car accident on Wednesday (Sept. 21), in a fiery crash on the highway, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was 40 years old.

The rapper's brother first revealed the news on Shawty Lo's Twitter page, tweeting: "My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart, and his music will live on".

Fulton County police said it was a single car accident that took place at 2:20 a.m. on I-285. Shawty Lo was reportedly driving when he lost control of his 2016 Audi, veering off the road and striking a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene, while two women in the car were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Before the crash, he was partying at Atlanta strip club, Blue Flame, which he referenced in a number of Instagram posts.

Shawty Lo is best known for his debut single "Dey Know", which appeared on his solo debut, 2008's Units in the City. He was also a founding member of Southern hip-hop group D4L, who saw success in 2006 with their breakout hit, "Laffy Taffy".

He made headlines in 2013, when a teaser of his Oxygen Network reality show surfaced that focused on his family life, called All My Babies. What made it interesting is that he has 11 children by 10 different women. The show never aired.
