Chael Sonnen Returning to MMA, Signs With Bellator
Two years after retiring from the UFC, veteran Chael Sonnen says he's returing to the cage, but this time with Bellator.
The 39-year-old signed a multiyear, multi-fight deal with Bellator recently, which the company announced Thursday (Sept. 15).
Sonnen says he hopes to fight fellow former UFC legend Tito Ortiz in his first fight.
"I want to fight right now, and I don't fight in any weight division," Sonnen tells the AP. "I fight at gangster weight. Wherever the competition is, I will show up. [Bellator president Scott] Coker has got guys under contract from 185 to 205. He's signing guys at heavyweight. If he's got guys that want to fight, then let's fight."
Sonnen last fought in November 2013, losing to Rashad Evans via TKO at UFC 167.
The following year, he was handed a two-year suspension for failing a drug test, after which he announced his retirement.
