Freddie Gibbs Arrested in France on Rape Charge
Rapper Freddie Gibbs was arrested in France last week on alleged rap charges.
According to Pitchfork, the rapper was taken into custody last Thursday (June 2), minutes before a scheduled performance at the Rex in Toulouse, France. Apparently, he is a suspect in a rape that took place in Austria in 2015, reports La Depeche.
Gibbs is currently in the process of being extradited to Austria to await trial.
In a statement, Gibbs' attorneys said: “Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities. It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges. Freddie will be fighting the extradition request as these are nothing more than trumped up charges.”
Gibbs was forced cancel a performance in Barcelona due to the arrest, and in late May, he cancelled a show in Vienna, Austria, citing transportation issues.
