Brock Lesnar to Return to Octagon for UFC 200
Guess who's back? Brock Lesnar is returning to the UFC Octagon.
During the UFC 199 PPV on Saturday night (June 4), the UFC announced that they had inked a deal with Lesnar to fight an undisclosed opponent at UFC 200 on July 9.
The news comes despite Lesnar himself saying that he was "officially closing the door on MMA" and re-signing with the WWE last March. He turns 39 next month.
On Saturday, the WWE released a statement saying it had "granted a one-off opportunity" to return to the UFC for the July fight and that he'd return for WWE's SummerSlam on Aug. 21.
Lesnar made his UFC debut in February 2008, losing to Frank Mir via submission. He eventually went on to win the UFC heavyweight title, but his MMA career was derailed by an intestinal disorder called diverticulitis. Though he recovered and returned, two consecutive knockout losses to Cain Velasquez and Alistar Overeem, the last in 2011, forced him to re-think his future in the sport.
He trained for a comeback last year and was in negotiations with the UFC on a new deal, but ultimately decided to re-sign with the WWE.
