“Batman v Superman” Had Record Weekend at Box Office
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally hit theaters this weekend, and despite being ripped to shreds by critics, it was a massive success at the box office.
The DC blockbuster raked in a staggering $170.1 million this weekend, easily taking the throne at the box office from last weekend's top movie, Zootopia.
Batman v Superman reportedly cost $250 million to make, and has already surpassed that mark. Globally, the film took in $424 million globally, with $254 million of that coming from overseas... which is a global record, although it's not the largest opening ever domestically. It also set a domestic record for the largest March opening of all time, according to CNN Money.
Zootopia landed at No. 2 with just $23.1 million domestically in its fourth week; and the No. 3 spot was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which brought in $18.1 million in its debut weekend.
That's a wrap for this weekend. See this weekend's top 5 below, and next weekend, look out for the release of Mike Epp's Meet the Blacks and God's Not Dead 2.
