Deadpool took over the box office with record numbers during Valentine's Day weekend, earning $135 million... the biggest opening ever for an R-rated release.

The film, starring Ryan Reynolds, easily beat out the $85.2 million February debut of 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey, while becoming the biggest R-rated opening, surpassing The Matrix Reloaded, which opened to $91.8 million in May 2003. Worldwide, it had a $300 million opening.

Coming in a distant second was last weekend's No. 1 film, Kung Fu Panda 3, earning $19.7 million, bringing it total to $93.9 million in just three weeks.

In third place was the R-rated Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson romantic comedy, How to Be Single, opening with $17.9 million, while Zoolander 2 debuted in a disappointing fourth place with $13.9 million.

The Revenant closed out the top 5 with $6.6 million and $158.8 million to date.

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of Race, which tells the story of track-and-field superstar Jesse Owens; the Sony action-adventure Risen; and the horror flick, The Witch.
