“Terminator” Franchise A Wrap? Date For Next Film Pulled

Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys, the 2015 reboot of the Terminator franchise, was supposed to launch a new trilogy... but it appears it may be the end instead.

According to EW, the next film in the franchise has been officially taken off Paramount's release calendar. Terminator 2 was scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 19, 2017, but now, Paramount has set Dwayne Johnson's Baywatch film on the release date instead.

Terminator Genisys debuted in Summer 2015 with just $28.7 million in the U.S., and eventually grossed $87.9 million to date. Despite the U.S. numbers, the film did take in $350 million overseas for a worldwide take of $440.6 million.

It carried a production budget of $155 million, so the Genisys did make money.

At press time, it's unclear if Terminator 2 will see the light of day.
