Mos Def Arrested In South Africa
Mos Def, who goes by the name Yasiin Bey, was recently arrested at Cape Town International Airport in South Africa for violating local immigration laws while trying to exit the country, reports ABC News.
The rapper (born Dante Terrell Smith) produced an unrecognized "world passport" when he tried to leave the country, said Department of Home Affairs spokesman Mayihlome Tshwete.
Mos Def entered the country in 2013 with an American passport, but apparently, overstayed his visitor's permit by 2014.
Per the court order, he is now banned from South Africa for five years, but may appeal to officials for leniency.
