FOX’s “Empire” Renewed For Third Season

FOX's hit series Empire has been renewed for a third season, reports Variety.

FOX CEOs, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, made the announcement on Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, CA.

While the news was expected, Variety points out that the early renewal proves FOX's faith in the breakout hit.

Season 2 of Empire was down from the peak rating it saw in its first season, but still remained the top-rated series adults 18-49 during the first half of its second season. In the fall, it averaged a 7.3 rating in the demo and 17.7 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen. And, it also ranks as the most-tweeted broadcast TV series.

On Sunday (Jan. 10), Taraji P. Henson won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role as "Cookie Lyon" on the show.

Empire is currently on mid-season hiatus, but is scheduled to return to Fox March 30.
