“Star Wars” Breaks Christmas Day Box Office Record
Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to smash records, the latest being the Christmas Day box office in North America.
The film raked in $49.3 million on Christmas Day, becoming the highest mark ever on the holiday. The previous Christmas Day record take was $24.6 million, set by Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey, Jr, in 2009.
So far, The Force Awakens has earned $890.3 million worldwide, with $440.4 million in the U.S. alone.
Avatar ($2.79 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion) hold the top two spots for all-time box office sales. The Force Awakens is expected to surpass both.
