Tinashe Covers Dazed’s Winter 2015 Issue
As she gears up for her sophomore album, Joyride, Tinashe graces the cover of UK magazine Dazed's Winter 2015 issue.
For the photo spread, the singer shows a quirky side, as she climbs trees, and maybe a little disturbing side, as she holds a lighter to her tongue and licks a miniature toilet.
Tinashe, obviously, talks about her upcoming album, which is due in January and features contributions from the likes of Dr. Luke, Hit-Boy, Travis Scott, Nic Nac, Boi-1da and Chris Brown (on the lead single "Player"). "I want it to be exciting, I want it to keep you on your toes, I want people to not know what to expect," she says of Joyride. "It's the perfect title for this point in my life... I feel like I'm on a joyride all the time. It's dangerous, it's an adventure, it's emotional."
Head over to Dazed's website for more photos and the interview. See excerpts below.
On aspirations: "I don't really care about making a lot of money, but I care about being the most successful. I don't necessarily consider dollar signs the most successful. You shouldn't get into the music business because you're trying to get rich—there are so many career goals that are way easier, way less work, way less stress, and you'll make way more money."
On wanting more: "I'm never satisfied, even though I'm super-happy with the success I've had. I'm always thinking, 'How can I take this to the next level? How can I step this up?'"
On being a role model: "I feel like I can inspire people in other ways. I don't feel the need to be super-conservative in my choices or be a typical 'role model.' I think I can influence girls to be independent—how to make their own decisions, how to go after their goals and not just sit around waiting to get married to someone who can help build their careers. Take control as a woman: you can create that lifestyle for yourself!"
