“Star Wars” Has More Than $50 Million In Advanced Ticket Sales
While Star Wars: The Force Awakens isn't due out until late December, it's been the year of Star Wars.
With a month until its release, the film has already racked up more than $50 million in advance ticket sales in North America, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. That's the double the previous record set by The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 with $25 million.
The report says that IMAX accounts for a third of all ticket sales.
With such as frenzy for opening weekend, there are big expectations for The Force Awakens. It's expected to earn the biggest North American debut of all time, ahead of the $208.8 million earned in June by Jurassic World.
Online sales for the film began Oct. 19, causing ticket sites like Fandango to crash.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases Dec. 17.
