Cavaliers, Tristan Thompson Agree On $82 Million Deal
Although it looked as though a deal wouldn't be reached, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tristan Thompson have agreed on a five-year contract, worth $82 million, reports ESPN.
The deal does not include player or team options, and all money is guaranteed.
Thompson will make $16.4 million annually in the deal, making him the sixth-highest-paid power forward in the NBA.
The 24-year-old had been seeking a max contract of five years and $94 million or three years and $53 million... but the Cavs weren't budging, offering him five years and $80 million.
With Thompson locked in, the Cavs have accomplished their goal of bringing back the core of the team that reached the Finals last season. However, it costs them greatly with the contracts for LeBron James, Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Thompson totaling more than $290 million in guaranteed money.
