Nike Officially Unveils The LeBron 13
After a few sneak peeks from unofficial sources, Nike officially unveils the next LeBron James signature shoe: the LeBron 13.
The sneaker features three performance innovations, including a breathable, sock-like fit for flexibility and lockdown; the use of Hyperposite material for zoned impact protection; and Nike's Zoom Air cushioning to help maximize explosiveness.
The LeBron 13 evolves the size and placement of the hexagonal Nike Zoom Air units that debuted in the previous shoe. Four Zoom Air units in the outsole provide maximum response and cushioning on impact. This time, two of the units are 13 millimeters thick (larger than those in the LeBron 12 in total volume) and one in the heel and one in the ball of the foot. Two additional hexagonal Nike Zoom units are placed in the forefoot at peak pressure points.
We also see Hyperposite on the midfoot and collar that adapts to the forceful torque exerted by James at top speed. Wrapping the top of the foot, it also enhances durability and support while maintaining flexibility and providing protection. An asymmetrical lacing system finishes the upper and supplements lockdown and foot containment.
Design inspiration of the shoe reflects James's hometown roots in Akron, Ohio. Unique elements to each colorway come to life in five locations on each shoe: tongue top, tongue embellishment, heel tab, Swoosh graphic and inside heel. Additional nods to James come through specific details in each colorway, including outsole elements and a LeBron logo on the toe and heel tab.
The Nike LeBron 13 "Written in the Stars" colorway will be available Oct. 1 in Greater China and globally on Oct. 10, followed by the "Away" colorway denoting Cleveland’s season tipoff on the road in Chicago on Oct. 27. Finally, the LEBRON 13 is available for NIKEiD customization on Sept. 30.
