Director F. Gary Gray Makes History With “Straight Outta Compton”
With the success of Straight Outta Compton, its director F. Gary Gray has made history.
The 46-year-old has become the highest-grossing Black director for a single film in domestic sales.
The N.W.A. film has earned $158.8 million in the U.S. and Canada, allowing Gray to surpass Keenen Ivory Wayans (Scary Movie) and Tim Story.
2000's Scary Movie earned $157 million its first year and 2005's Fantastic Four made $154.6 million.
Fantastic Four holds the title internationally, with $175.8 million dollars in revenue, followed by Scary Movie with $121 million worldwide.
Straight Outta Compton has earned just $30.1 million overseas.
