Flip Saunders Takes Leave From Timberwolves In Cancer Fight
Minnesota Timberwolves coach and team president Flip Saunders is currently hospitalized from complications related to his cancer treatments and announced Friday (Sept. 11) that he will take a leave of absence.
In Saunders' absence, Sam Mitchell will serve as the Timberwolves' interim coach, while general manager Milt Newton will take over responsibilities of overseeing the roster.
Saunders, 60, announced in August that he is being treated for Hodgkin lymphoma. He's since experienced complications from his chemotherapy treatments and will continue to undergo further testing and treatments.
He joined the Timberwolves' staff in June 2014.
