Notorious B.I.G. Murder Detective Russell Poole Dies
Former LAPD detective Russell Poole, best known for heading the investigation of the Notorious B.I.G.'s murder case, has died.
According to the L.A. Times, he was working on another cold case, and during a meeting with detectives, he collapsed following a suspected heart attack.
Poole later died at a local hospital.
He was a lead detective on the murder of Notorious B.I.G., which has never been officially solved.
After months of investigation, Poole theorized that a corrupt LAPD officer conspired with Death Row Records head Suge Knight to pull off the murder... in retaliation for the killing of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas six months prior.
He was eventually pulled off the case. In protest, Poole retired from the department in 1999.
"I think I was getting too close to the truth," Poole told CNN in 2011. "I think they feared the truth would be a scandal."
He went on to release a book in 2003 called LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., which lays out his theories and evidence supporting them.
