“Straight Outta Compton” Earns $24M In Box Office Opening Day
The anticipated N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, hit theaters on Friday (August 14), drawing in moviegoers with an estimated $24.4 million in its first day.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie launch during Thursday night (August 13) with screenings that brought in $4.96 million. Furthermore, it was greeted with an enthusiastic A CinemaScore from moviegoers.
Compton is the latest in a string of hits from Universal, helping them reach out a total domestic gross for the year above the $2 billion mark.
The film is expected to finish the weekend with $40 to $50 million.
Directed by F. Gary Gray, the films tells the story of the legendary hip-hop group, N.W.A., and their rise to fame and impact on the genre.
