Variety’s 1st Annual Sports Entertainment Breakfast Presented by Mercedes-Benz

Variety hosted their First Annual Sports Entertainment Breakfast, Presented by Mercedes-Benz, recently, honoring accomplished athletes in their respective sports.

The event organized some of the top sports executives and athletes to discuss what it takes to be "The New All-Star Athlete." From reality show competitions to social media followings, athletes today are no longer measured by athletic prowess alone. They've also been making a transition into film and TV over the years. And, winning the gold is no longer the highest achievement in the world of sports.

Antonio Brown will be the first recipient of Variety's Male Sports Personality of the Year. His story starts out by being picked in the 6th round (195th) in the 2010 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. From that moment on, Brown has been breaking records year after year. From being the first player in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards and at least 1,000 return yards in the same season to being 2013's MVP, Brown's career shows no signs of slowing down. Brown makes his acting debut in HBO's new series Ballers.

Laila Ali will be honored as Variety's First Female Sports Personality of the Year. Ali wears many hats in her life. She is a mom, wife, boxing champion, TV Host, Beauty & Lifestyle Brand CEO, advocate for children and author just to name a few. A prime example of "The New All-Star Athlete," Laila Ali's strategic thinking and perseverance has gotten her more than winning titles in the boxing ring.

Also joining us at the breakfast are 10-time NBA All-Star Chris Bosh (Miami Heat), Hall of Famer Willie McGinest (New England Patriots) and NBA star Matt Barnes (Memphis Grizzlies). These athletes will be discussing the changing role of athletes alongside sports executives Justin Castillo (CAA), Mark Ciardi (Producer), Jon Weinbach (Mandalay Sports Media) and Eric Weinberger (NFL Network).
