Kendrick Lamar Sued By Photographer Over Single Artwork
Kendrick Lamar is being sued by a Italian photographer who claims he used his photograph without permission for the artwork to his single, "The Blacker the Berry," from his latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly.
Freelance photographer Giordano Cipriani names Lamar, Top Dawg Entertainment, Interscope Records and Aftermath Entertainment in the suit, claiming they used a photo he shot on a 2011 trip to Africa, featuring a mother breastfeeding two children.
He says it was used without permission or payment on the artwork, which appeared on the rapper's Youtube channel and Facebook pages, as well as for general press.
A lawsuit was filed July 10 in New York Federal Court. Cipriani is seeking $150,000 for each time the image was used, as well as lawyer fees.
He has also demanded an injunction against Lamar to prevent any further unauthorized use of the image.
