R. Kelly’s Brother Claims Singer Refuses To Pay Him For Work
R. Kelly's older brother, Bruce Kelly, claims he worked more than 144 hours a week for his famous brother, and never got paid a dime.
Bruce tells TMZ the singer hired him to be his personal assistant back in March and pay him $700/week. Tasks included things like food runs and being a chauffeur for R. Kelly.
According to docs filed with the state labor board, Bruce says he sometimes worked up to 12 hours in the car for Kelly, never getting sleep. He now says he's owed $11,000 in back pay and is "not working for nobody, not even his brother, for free."
The Illinois Department of Labor confirmed the claim, filed June 23, and are now investigating the issue. However, they would not release details except that the complaint is for unpaid regular and overtime wages.
"The complaint you're referencing is still under investigation, we can't share the details of the case until it is closed. I can confirm however that we are in receipt of the claim," department spokeswoman Leili Doerr said in an email to The Chicago Tribune.
Bruce Kelly wrote Thursday (July 9), via his Facebook page: "i can't believe this is what I have to resort to to get paid from my own Brother. I know my mother is turning over in her grave!! this is not how joann kelly raised us. what's wrong with paying your brother what you owe him. you pay everybody else!!"
