DeAndre Jordan Joining The Dallas Mavs On $80M Deal
DeAndre Jordan is leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, after reaching a agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, said reports.
The 26-year-old center has agreed to a four-year maximum contract with the Mavs, worth in excess of $80 million. It also includes a player option after the third season to allow him to return to free agency in July 2018.
Jordan played at Texas A&M in college, and apparently, the chance to return to Texas and become the team's new franchise player, instead of a third wheel behind Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, was appealing to him.
In addition to Dallas, Jordan also met with the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. However, it was expected that he would choose between the Mavs and Clippers.
Jordan has spent all seven seasons of his NBA career with the Clippers, where he developed into one of the league's best rim protectors and defensive centers.
Last season, he averaged 11.5 points and led the league in rebounding with 15 per game. He also earned first-team NBA All-Defense honors.
