Introducing The Nike KD8
Nike unveiled the latest signature shoe for brand athlete Kevin Durant this week: the KD8.
The new sneaker features two Nike firsts: a Flyweave upper and an articulated full-length Zoom Air unit. The two elements work in tandem to provide Durant a versatility, fit and responsiveness.
Designed in collaboration with designer Leo Chang and Durant, the Flyweave technology was over two years in development before it was chosen for the upper of the KD8, the first Nike Basketball shoe to bring high-strength woven textile that can be designed in high resolution, down to the pixel, for the rigors of basketball footwork.
Combined with Flywire cables in the forefoot, Flyweave locks you in like a seatbelt, but moves and feels like a second skin.
The full-length Nike Zoom Air unit was specifically designed for the KD8 to provide responsive cushioning that moves naturally with Durant's foot. It boasts thousands of high-strength fibers that connect the top and bottom of this Zoom Air unit and run the foot's entire length.
Inspiration was drawn from the legndary sabertooth tiger, a tattoo KD has on his right leg. The heel design mimics a sabertooth's fangs.
Two more colorways tell a story. The "July 4th" colorway reflects Durant's love for the holiday with a patriotic red, white and blue palette. And, a "V8" edition is the second colorway drop and pulls inspiration from Durant's Camaro he had customized in 2010.
The Nike KD8 debuts June 23 on NIKEiD for personalized customization. The "July 4th" colorway drops June 27 in limited quantities, followed by the "V8" on July 11.
