Shawn Porter Earns Decision Victory Over Broner
"Showtime" Shawn Porter handed Adrien Broner the second loss of his career on Saturday night (June 20), in their non-title matchup on the Premier Boxing Champions card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Porter dominated throughout the fight, cruising to a unanimous decision victory, although the 12th and final round was controversial.
Behind on the scorecards, Broner needed a knockout, and would land a left hook to send Porter to the canvas... but was unable to finish him.
All three judges had it for Porter: 118-108, 115-111 and a surprisingly close 114-112.
"This was a great fight for us and a great win. We are going to enjoy this fight and keep going," Porter said.
Both Porter and Broner, whom are former welterweight titleholders, knew a win would put them in position for another major fight... possibly against Floyd Mayweather, who plans to fight September 12 to finish his Showtime/CBS contract.
