Clippers Get Lance Stephenson In Trade With Hornets

Lance Stephenson

The Los Angeles Clippers have acquired Lance Stephenson on Monday night (June 15), via a trade with the Hornets for Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.

The move comes as the team tries to upgrade at the wing, but have been hinder by the salary cap. The only option was a trade.

"Thank you to buzz city and the Hornets organization," Stephenson tweeted. "While the past year didn't work out as I hoped it would, I really enjoyed my time in the city of Charlotte. I will thoroughly miss the Hornets fans and my teammates who were very supportive of me over the last year. I wish the Hornets success going forward and I'm looking forward to doing whatever I can to help bring a championship to Los Angeles and Clipper Nation."

Stephenson struggled in his first season with the Hornets, averaging 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists. However, the Clippers hope he returns to the form he had in Indiana, where he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists two years ago for a Pacers team that advanced to the Eastern Conference finals.

After the season, the Pacers made Stephenson a five-year, $44 million contract offer, but he turned it down and signed with Charlotte.
