A few days after issuing a warrant for his arrest, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been arrested and charged with the murder.
He has been a lead suspect in the murder-death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd earlier this week, who was also his friend and just 27 years old.
The pair had been partying at a nightclub on the evening of the incident, when they got into some sort of a dispute. Lloyd's body was found in an industrial park about a mile from the former NFL player's home.
Hernandez was picked up Wednesday (June 26) and charged with first-degree murder. He's currently being held without bail, and also faces five gun-related charges.
Lloyd's relatives said he was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée, and that they were out together on the last night of Lloyd's life. Authorities said Lloyd was shot multiple times in the back and chest.
The Patriots released Hernanddez less than two hours after his arrest.
Hernandez's attorney, Michael Fee, said his client had never been accused of a violent crime, and asked for bail, saying he would not be a flight risk. "It is, at bottom, a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case," Fee said.
