Ja Rule is a free man. The rapper was released from prison on Tuesday (May 7), after serving back-to-back sentences for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion.
According to TMZ.com, Ja (real name: Jeffrey Atkins) was released from Ray Brook Federal Prison in New York on Tuesday morning at around 10 AM by his wife, and drove straight home.... and is ordered to remain on house arrest for the remainder of his sentence... until July 28th.
Ja Rule began serving his bid in June 2011, a sentence stemming from a 2007 gun arrest in New York City. After being pulled over, police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle. Then, in July 2011, a judge ruled that he was sentenced to two additional years for tax evasion, though he would serve each sentence concurrently.
Ja was originally set for release in July ... but he got out early.
