YG and his producer DJ Mustard are off to a strong start in 2013. After a slew of tours with the likes of Mac Miller and Tyga in 2012, the Compton rapper and DJ blessed fans with a new mixtape in January, titled Just Re'd Up 2.
Fresh off the project's release, we caught up with the young rapper at his home studio to discuss the tape, as well as his future.
Specifically, YG tells us about his pairing with ATL superstar Young Jeezy, who has been tapped as executive producer for his long awaited debut LP, I'm 4rm Bompton; as well as their collaboration on his latest single, "Playin" (a music video was recently shot in Los Angeles), which also features Wiz Khalifa.
Later, he tells us about signing with Def Jam back in 2009, why it was his label of choice, and having to build a buzz to garner their support.
Just Re'd Up 2 is out now. It boasts guest features from the likes of Dom Kennedy, Jose Moses, TyDolla$sign, Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, Nipsey Hussle, Young Scooter, and Juicy J, among others.
