Weekend Box Office: ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2′ Takes #1 For Second Weekend

Moviegoers broke box office revenue records this Thanksgiving weekend, spending more than $290 million for the period from Wednesday through Sunday. The previous record was set in 2009 with $270.5 million.

Twilight, Skyfall, and Lincoln all finished in the same top three slots as last week, with new releases lacking the numbers to dislodge them.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 took the # 1 slot and brought in $43.1 million from Friday to Sunday, raising its domestic total to $227 million.

Sony's Skyfall holds onto the #2 position bringing in $36 million, raising the total to $221.7 million domestically for the 23rd installment of the Bond franchise.

The DreamWorks film Lincoln continues to perform strongly coming in at #3  for a second week and earning $25 million in its third week of release.

Rise of the Guardians debuts at #4 with $24 million. In the film the evil spirit Pitch launches an assault on Earth and the Immortal Guardians team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world.

Debuting at #5 we have the Life of Pi with $22 million. Adapted from the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, a young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor, a fearsome Bengal tiger.

Outside fo the top 5 we have the debut of the remake of Red Dawn at # 7 with $14.6 million. In the film, a group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan among others.

Hitchcock debuts at #18 in limited release with $301 thousand to start. The film tells the love story between the influential filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville during the filming of Psycho in 1959. The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansen, and others.
