News surfaced about a rumored signing back in May, but it is official now. Riff Raff is the latest signee of Diplo's Mad Decent label.
The shamelessly eccentric Houston-born rapper join a label roster that already boasts Bonde do Role, Bosco Delrey, Po Po, Dillon Francis, Rusko, Maluca, and Zebra Katz, among others.
Further details about the signing was unknown at press time.
Back in May, Diplo surprised his followers when he tweeted that he had deposited $45,000 for a custom Mad Decent chain for Riff Raff, sparking rumors that he had inked a record deal with the label. Riff Raff would later tell Fuse.tv that he had, indeed, signed to the label, and was getting a custom chain a tattoo to make it permanent, though he said the deal was for five years.
Mad Decent says the rapper will continue to work on new material over the next several months, with his studio album debut coming sometime in 2013.
Riff Raff was thought to had previously signed with Soulja Boy's SODMG imprint last summer, when both rappers announced the news on their respective Twitter accounts. However, following this week's news of Riff's deal with Mad Decent, Soulja Boy took to Twitter to denounce any previous relationship the pair had.
"Riff Raff was never in Sodmg for real he faked and used our name to promote his garbage you owe us money pussy and u a cokehead," Soulja Boy wrote (@SouljaBoy).
Despite Soulja's claims, according to Riff Raff's tweets, he was under the impression that he was part of the crew, but wasn't getting paid ... and eventually decided to part ways. Either way, it looks like ties have been cut.
"i AM NO LONGER WiTH SODMG ... SORRY .. U HAD YOUR CHANCE ... @souljaboy," Riff Raff wrote (@JODYHiGHROLLER). "iM NOT BEEFiNG WiTH @souljaboy ... i JUST DONT KNOW WHY HE iS UPSET ... WHAT WOULD U DO iF THE CEO WASNT PAYiNG U ??"
