There was Grammy fever in the music industry on Sunday evening (February 12), as celebrities and media occupied Los Angeles as the awards ceremony closed out a long week. While Whitney Houston's untimely passing was definitely a focus, no one could take the shine away from British songbird Adele, who walked away the Grammy's big winner with six trophies.
She swept most major categories of Song, Record and Album of the Year, while the music biz mourned the loss of Houston.
Adele's sophomore album, 21, was named album of the year -- beating out the likes of Lady Gaga, the Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, and Rihanna -- while her single "Rolling in the Deep" won Song and Record of the year at the 54th Grammy Awards, which LL Cool J hosted.
Behind her was Foo Fighters with five awards including Best Rock album, and Kanye West came in third with four, including Best Rap Album for his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Ye also took home honors for Best Rap Performance for his Watch The Throne single with Jay-Z "Otis," Rap/sung Collaboration and Rap Song for "All Of The Lights." However, he was a no-show.
While Adele's performance of "Deep" was definitely one of the evening's biggest highlights, other big moments included a performance by Jennifer Hudson who paid tribute to Houston late in the show, singing a gospel-tinged version of Whitney's "I Will Always Love You," accompanied only by piano, ending with the shout-out, "Whitney we love, we love you."
Rihanna also performed ... running through his hit "We Found Love" before being joined on acoustic guitar by her pal Chris Martin of Coldplay. And, her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown took home Best R&B Album for F.A.M.E. ... saying, "We got one," thanking the Grammys for inviting him back for the first time since his infamous fight with Rihanna in 2009 the night before the awards show.
While Nicki Minaj walked away empty handed, she sure has the Internet talking with a odd performance of a brand new single, titled "Roman Holiday," off her upcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The YMCMB princess closed out the show with the new song, channeling her alter ego, Roman Zolanski onstage, leading the audience and viewers through a rap exorcism ... where she levitated and even spoke in tongues. It was definitely ... umm, unique. (see the performance here )
