It looks like the much hyped beef between Common and Drake is officially over.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Chicago rap veteran stated that he had no more plans to further diss his Canadian counterpart ... unless he fired back. Well, Drake is now saying he he won't respond.
Why? Because he feels the beef was never real, but instead manufactured by Common to help fuel sales of his recently released The Dreamer | The Believer album.
In his own interview with Rolling Stone, Drizzy accused Common of using the excuse of a false hip-hop "battle" for the sake of the genre's "integrity" to fire shots at him. And, because of that is disappointed because the rapper was someone he once looked up to.
"Despite how it's been worded by him, that situation is not a hip-hop moment or a battle for the sake of musical integrity," the rapper told the magazine. "It's a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything, it was just disappointing 'cause what kid isn't a fan of what Common has done for our genre.
"A guy who made such an incredible career for himself, based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story," Drake continued.
It all started with Common's single "Sweet", which he later revealed was aimed at Drake. It prompted an indirect diss from the YMCMB rap star on a verse for Rick Ross' "Stay Schemin" mixtape track, which Common later hopped on to diss him in response. Since then, fans have waited for a response from Drake, but never got one.
What do you think? Did Common really go at Drake for the sake of hip-hop? Or did he do it for publicity?
