After the NFL and its players reached an agreement on Monday (July 25), teams went right to work the following day, making trades and signing free agents.
One of the most talked about moves is one between the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings, where quarterback Donovan McNabb will be dealt to the mid-west after the Skins benched him for the last few games of last season.
Following Favre's retirement, the Viks needed a replacement, and according to ESPN, McNabb's acquisition shows accomplished veterans like Adrian Peterson, Antoine Winfield, Jared Allen and Kevin Williams that the team is still in a "win now" mode and has not started a rebuild around new draftpick, Christian Ponder.
The deal is not yet done, but sources say it will involve a 2012 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional sixth-round pick for 2013 going to Washington. The Redskins had wanted fifth- and seventh-round picks from Minnesota.
Other NFL moves include: the Tennessee Titans' deal for Seattle Seahawks QB, Matt Hasselbeck, who reached agreement on a multi-year contract.
On Tuesday (July 26), the Seattle Seahawks revealed that they wouldn't re-sign the 35-year-old quarterback, but instead agreed to a deal with former Minnesota Viking Tarvaris Jackson.
The Titans, however, are expected to groom Jake Locker, the eighth overall pick in April's draft, to be their starter of the future. And, former starter Vince Young will either be released or traded, while veteran Kerry Collins announced earlier this month that he was retiring.
In Philadelphia, it seems Michael Vick's starting QB position is cemented, as the team deals Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals, where he'll get a starting role and become the main man out west for a team who has struggled to find a reliable quarterback.
Elsewhere around the league, receiver Santonio Holmes signed a five-year deal to stay with the New York Jets where he'll receive just under $10 per season.
The Carolina Panthers reached an agreement to re-sign running back DeAngelo Williams to a five-year, $43 million contract.
Safety Eric Weddle was made the richest in history at the position by the San Diego Chargers, who will be signing the defensive star to a five-year $40 million deal ... where he'll receive $19 million guaranteed and a $13 million signing bonus.
"I'm on cloud nine," Weddle told the San Diego Union-Tribune on Wednesday. "This is the team I love. I feel we have unfinished business. I want to prove I was worth this deal. When this deal is done, I will be one of the best safeties out there."
