Murs Chops Off His Trademark Dreadlocks

By Jay Casteel (@JayCasteel)   |   Published 07/14/2011

MursIt's been years since anyone's seen Murs without his trademark dreadlocks, but the hairstyle is a wrap now, because he chopped them off.

The indie rap pioneer recently spent a few weeks on the East Coast, recording tracks for a new album ... during which, he felt it was time for a change.

Murs headed to Frank's Chop Shop in New York weeks ago, and changed his 'do ... opting to go with the mini-fro.

"Frank's Chop Shop, you changed my life. Now I'm gonna get laid, and paid. It's all because of you," the rapper says in a clip documenting the experience. "My name is Murs, you may not recognize me, I'm hot!"

What do you think of Murs' new hairdo?

Aside from a change to his physical appearance, Murs recorded tracks for his upcoming album, aptly titled Love & Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation.

During his New York visit, he recorded with Ski Beatz, the producer behind legendary tracks for Jay-Z, Mos Def, Curren$y, Jay Electronica and many more.

The forthcoming album will drop this fall on Dame Dash's DD172/BLUROC labels, which will coincide with a 60-day tour alongside Tabi Bonney, McKenzie Eddy, Sean O Connell and Dash.
