Waka Flocka Flame Fed Up With The Industry, Says He's Retiring After This Year

By Allen Starbury   |   Published 07/08/2011

Waka Flocka FlameGeorgia rapper, Waka Flocka Flame, shot to fame in 2009 with the breakthrough single, "O Let's Do It". And, in just a short time, has become one of the most popular hip-hop artists in the game, not to mention "real."

With all of the success, he's become a hot commodity, but is the saying goes, the industry is full of snakes, and that's something he's realized. It's always why can't deal with anymore.

So, Waka says he plans to hang up his mic after the end of 2011.

In a tweet on Wednesday (July 6), the rapper announced his exit from the game, writing (@WakaFlockaBSM), "This game 2 fake I quite rap after this year."

The Twitter update shocked fans, all of which were left wondering why. So, Waka called into the Ryan Cameron Show on Atlanta's V103 radio station this week to confirm what he wrote on the social networking site, and explain.

"Yep, absolutely true," the rapper said on the air. "The game, as a whole, is fake. I'm tired of going what I go through, and at the end of the day, the forecast is always rain ... rain on my world.

"It's so much different haters, different fake smiles, different hugs. So to prevent myself from doing anything, I just rather quit," Waka continued. "I'd rather work at Wal-Mart than rap. I promise, and that's my word on God."

By the end of the year, Waka hopes to make enough money to financially secure his family and friends, and then, he's calling it a wrap. Either way, though, he says he's gone.

"I'm straight, regardless. I don't have any kids," Waka responded, when asked if he was aiming for a certain amount of money before going on haitus. "I'm always gonna be straight. I'm content with $200 in my pocket, rather than $20,000 in my pocket. I'm still gonna be the same person, wake up the same way. I could never be embarassed."

Despite being fed up with industry politics, Waka didn't completely rule out a return. While he makes it clear that it won't be until he goes on an extended vacation, coming back is probably certain, especially since he's just 25.

"I been wanting to quit. My moms is probably the only reason why I kept rapping," he explained. "Right now, I be so stressed over fake stuff. I'm struggling at 25 years old, how can I be stressed? So, I just wanna hang it up. I can't say its a forever thing, but I know I'mma take a good six to 12 months. I know I'mma take off for a good year, I know it."

For now, as far as music goes, Waka has an upcoming collaborative album with his mentor Gucci Mane; and his forthcoming sophomore LP, # Triple F Life: Friends, Fans, & Family; and most likely, a mixtape or two.

Hopefully, it's enough to hold fans over until he decides to return.
