Consequence Takes Aim At Kanye West In Newly Leaked Track, 'On My Own'

By Allen Starbury   |   Published 07/08/2011

ConsequenceFormer G.O.O.D. Music signee, Consequence, is taking aim at his former labelmates in a new song that leaked this week, called "On My Own."

On the new song, featuring a hook from Kid Cudi and production from Kanye West, the New York rapper seems to be taking aim at his former boss over a beat he produced, calling him out for not supporting his music.

It doesn't matter though, "cause when it comes to rap, I do this on my own," Cons declares to close out each verse.

However in the song's verses is where it becomes evident, there was a problem.

"Let's be honest, we don't need a lie detector / Don't try to make it seem that you was once my investor / You never believed, so you don't need to lie to Dexter," Cons spits in the first verse, before later adding, "The same homeys that I thought were my support system/ Got the nerve to jerk me like the court system."

Cudi crooning on the hook, further drives Cons' complaint home, as he sings, "I could do it on my own, I don't have to listen to your lies, forever/ I've been movin' on my own for some time now, so I gotta say goodbye, forever."

Consequence began his career working with legendary hip-hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, but later pursued his own solo career, teaming up with Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music, dropping his debut Don't Quit Your Day Job! in 2007.

While things seemed ok, tn the middle of recording his sophomore album, Cons TV, the rapper left G.O.O.D. Music after a fallout with Kanye, who he felt didn't support his music fully and/or didn't credit for his contribution to Ye's music.

He tells Billboard.com, he's learned from his past mistakes.

"It won't happen again. It's like when you're in somebody else's totem pole, so to speak, of course, the head is to receive the glory," Consequence says.

In an interview with Billboard.com, Cons expressed his frustrations over failing to receive his share of credit for Kanye's success.

"I'm one of the premiere songwriters in music over the last decade and it hasn't fully been exploited out of loyalty and out of business structure," he lamented. "I wrote a plethora of records that people are familiar with... I wrote the verses to 'Paranoid' with Kanye. It's a lot of people's favorite record from '808s and Heartbreak.'"

Apparently, he also contributed to Ye's songs, "Amazing," "Say You Will," and "Robocop" from his 808s and Heartbreaks; "Gone" from Late Registration; and "Spaceship" from The College Dropout.

"On My Own" will appear on Consequences's next mixtape, Movies on Demand 3, set to drop very soon.

Kanye produces your song, Kid Cudi provides the hook, you didn't do shit on your own Consequence. The GOOD music on this track will be the only reason people listen to it, if your bitching doesn't turn em off first. Now that Cons off GOOD Music, I promise this will be one of the last few times you ever hear his name, ever.

Con been doing his thing for a long time before Yeezy, for my understanding so Con been writing for Yeezy, then almost every album Yeezy made in which I bought then Con deserve the credit. It should be Con name on them, if its his ryhmes, I just wait for another Yeezy Album and hear the difference. Other then that its Con fault for writing for Yeezy. I wish Con the best of luck and make a strong comeback.

Well lets hope he still getting paid royalties for his song writing. I dont' care about recieving credit, as long as I get paid. There are alot of ghost writers out there that don't recieve a mention on the album, but still get their money in full.

Cons is a really good writer, but his delivery is so-so! He would do much better in a group or with a partner in rhyme. Prime example "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" he did with Kanye. He is at his best going back and forth with another artist, but a whole track by himself is lackluster and kinda boring!
He may be okay (career wise) if he doesnt try to make a whole album or mixtape dissin GOOD music or Ye!
